The cable car route

The Montjuïc Cable Car connects the key points of Montjuïc mountain with panoramic views of Barcelona. Discover what awaits you at each stop.

Route and Stops of the Cable Car

The route starts at Montjuïc Park, from where the Cable Car goes directly to Montjuïc Castle without intermediate stops. The return trip includes a stop at the Alcalde viewpoint and ends again at Montjuïc Park. Start your journey from any of the three stations (Parc Montjuïc, Mirador o Castell) and get off at one of the other two stations to enjoy the area.

Solve your doubts about the route

The Montjuïc Cable Car follows a circular route that starts at Montjuïc Park, from where it goes directly up to Montjuïc Castle without any intermediate stops. It then descends to the Mirador del Alcalde and ends again at Montjuïc Park. You can start the journey from any of the three stations (Parc Montjuïc, Mirador, or Castle) and get off at one of the other two stations to explore the area.

If you want to complete the full round-trip journey, you need to purchase a round-trip ticket, which allows you to board and disembark at all three stops. This ticket can be bought online or at any of the cable car stations. You can also buy a one-way ticket at the ticket offices, which lets you board at one station and get off at the next, without the possibility of reboarding with the same ticket.

If you have a round-trip ticket, you can board and disembark at all three stations. A one-way ticket, however, only allows travel between two consecutive stations.

All combinations have their charm, but the most common route starts at Parc Montjuïc station, as it is the best connected to public transport and other points of interest in the park. Most visitors choose to ride from this station to Montjuïc Castle, where they can get off to enjoy panoramic views from outside the castle grounds. Note that the cable car does not provide direct access to the interior of the castle.

Another highly recommended option is to get off at the Mirador del Alcalde, a peaceful spot with gardens and privileged views over Barcelona. Some prefer to start the journey at Montjuïc Castle and descend completely to Montjuïc Park, enjoying the panorama along the way. Finally, there is the option to board at the Mirador del Alcalde and get off at Parc Montjuïc, although this is a less common route.

The Montjuïc Cable Car is perfectly connected to the city’s public transport system. The easiest way to reach it is by metro (L2 or L3) to Paral·lel, then transfer to the Montjuïc Funicular, which takes you to the cable car departure point at Montjuïc Park. The funicular is part of the metro network and uses the same ticket. Two bus lines also stop at the Parc Montjuïc cable car station: 55 and 155. Finally, the Red Route of the Barcelona Tourist Bus has a direct connection to the cable car, stopping at the station of the same name.
